Library History

Read how this library was established and how it has evolved to become such an important part of our community.

The Archer Public Library opened its' doors the fall of 1979, becoming the 7th library in O'Brien County. On March 10,1980 a Board was formed and approved by the City Council.  The Library received a grant of $10,000 from the Kinney-Lindstrom Foundation with the city contributing $3,500 and one of the old school rooms was remodeled with shelving and furnishing. The 3M Club provided service for one year while a group called Friends of the Library was formed in July 1980.  In 1981 Agnes VanDonslear was hired as the librarian, then Marlys Wolthuizen and currently Marla Erick.
